The Shattered Trip Home

Oraca, Fl was where we decided to stop on our way back to Atlanta, GA for some quick good old American dining. It wasn’t the fact that it looked like it could take you back to the 1950′s… I’m kidding, that’s why we went. :)

Had dinner, met with a U.S. Navy Retiree – bad idea. It was one of those creepy regulars that stare at people, so I said, “hello.” After a quick conversation with him I realized that I couldn’t understand him. He was either part robot or screamed too much at No Doubt concerts. Mr. Creepy practically watched us eat and laughed with us on our jokes. I thought it was funny, but I could tell Lynn was freaked out – which made it funnier.

In the parking lot, we get our gear ready for the 8 hour drive back. I forget to remove my iPhone (3GS) off the roof of the car. I’ll skip a few scenes here and have you fill in how I felt when I drove back to pick it up.

I saw in the middle of the street, face down, and lifeless (cue sad violin music).

Without wasting another second, I ran over to retrieve its and gently placed in in the palm of my two hands. It’s face was unbearable. Shattered to pieces, but the SIM card was ok. So I knew it’s soul is still there.

After a few rest stop naps, gas station fill ups, snack raids, and swerving – we finally get home. First destination – Apple Store.

The geniuses at the Genius Bar were super friendly. Apparently they have an accidental replacement program. If you bring in your phone (as long as you have one) – they will replace it with an equivalent unit for $199. I was already prepared to pay the $599 to get my baby back.

I have a brand new iPhone now. It has the latest bootrom and firmware. All you nerds know what that means.
