A 31 hour celebration at the new Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) in honor of it’s grand opening. With events planned from Saturday 11AM until today, Sunday at 6:00PM, the public can enjoy free admission and activities from story readings to yoga in the gardens. Right off the 880 and Oak St, I somehow reached the conclusion that I wanted to while I was getting a drink of water at 2:30AM. So, I grabbed the only other insomniac on Facebook at that time, Valentine Lan and we were off. I have to admit that while I was driving – I had my regrets factored heavily by fatigue, but for the love of art and spontaneous things, we kept true to our goal. People were actually at the museum when we got there around 4:00AM!! Some people are insane
There was actually a lot of really cool exhibits and had a pretty good time actually. It was like having the museum all to ourselves. At some point, I thought I was dreaming through all of it.. again it was about 4:45AM at this point, so I’m not ruling out delusions and insanity.
The staff there was as friendly as anyone could be at that hour. They guided us to the exhibits and managed to pull off a few smiles and laughs. I was a zombie by 5:00AM, but I gained insight on Oakland’s history as well as the bay area ranging from modern art and immigration relics. I’ll have to keep my eyes out for free events like this, but go at a better time. You can check out OMCA here;
